John Radcliffe Eye Hospital

John Radcliffe Eye Hospital commissioned a bespoke vinyl artwork and signage project as part of a wider transformation of the Oxford Eye Hospital. Central to this initiative was the use of colour, artwork and clear wayfinding to improve navigation for patients with poor sight in a busy clinical environment, while creating a calmer, more welcoming and professional environment for patients, visitors and staff alike.

The project was fully funded by Oxford Hospitals Charity and designed by Jonathan Brett, artist and photography researcher at ERGO (Eye Research Group Oxford). The project required a print partner who could translate complex, research-led designs into high-quality, durable interior finishes.

Our Approach.

Working closely with the client and designer, VGL brought the vision to life transforming the hospital environment through carefully produced vinyl artwork and signage. Given the sensitive nature of a live hospital site, it was essential that production and installation were carried out with precision, professionalism and minimal disruption to patient care.

The experienced team at VGL ensured the artwork was reproduced accurately, with colour clarity and material quality suitable for an eye hospital environment, while coordinating installation around patients and staff safely and respectfully.

Self-adhesive vinyl wall murals to define distinct areas within the hospital
Optically clear glazing graphics for clarity and accessibility
Dibond signage to deliver durable, professional wayfinding solutions

The use of colour and clear signage helps patients with visual impairments navigate the hospital more easily, while also enhancing the overall atmosphere of the space.

The completed transformation has delivered a visually calming, engaging and functional hospital environment that benefits patients, visitors and clinical teams alike.
