Arc’teryx Window Display "Worn When It Counts".

Arc’teryx, a high-end technical outdoor gear expert and owned by Armer Sports, ran a retail campaign to showcase a seasonal collection, using creative window displays to communicate a story and engage passersby.

For 2025, the campaign theme was “Worn When It Counts”. Arc’teryx wanted a window display that conveyed the dramatic atmosphere of a winter storm while remaining practical for a live store environment.

We have worked with Arc’teryx on previous successful campaigns, so the client bought us in as a trusted partner to collaborate and bring their complex concept to life.

Our Approach.

VGL worked with Arc’teryx to translate the “Worn When It Counts” concept into a feasible retail window display. The focus was on creating the effect of a storm using specialist materials rather than building a physical installation inside the store.

The presentation had to respect strict retail stipulations, including limited access, tight spaces and installation outside trading hours for zero disruption. VGL’s approach was to use a combination of materials and layering techniques to achieve the desired visual impact while keeping the installation practical, quick and streamlined.

The Solution.

The challenge from a design perspective was to create a powerful feeling of cold and a blizzardy, snowy environment. VGL used a combination of materials to cleverly recreate the storm in the store window:

  • Optically Clear Vinyl: Allowed graphics to be applied to the glass while maintaining visibility into the store.
  • Imitation Snow: Added texture to the display and enhanced the wintery storm feel.
  • Backlit Fabric: Introduced subtle lighting effects to enhance depth and atmosphere.
  • Pre-Spaced Vinyl and Props: Added visual detail and dimension.

By using this layered technique, VGL created the storm effect entirely on the window itself, making it easy to adjust other elements in the window bay, without upsetting the look and feel of the snow.

The Result.

The “Worn When It Counts”  window display achieved the client’s objectives:

  • A storm effect was created on the window without the need to build a physical installation.
  • The display was visually engaging while maintaining visibility into the store.
  • Installation was completed efficiently outside trading hours, addressing access and space limitations.

VGL’s experience and approach meant Arc’teryx could deliver its campaign in a way that balanced bold creative vision with practical cost cost-effective execution, demonstrating the benefits of choosing VGL over another print supplier.
