Leukaemia Research
Chronic Myeloid
Leukaemia (CML) Project

VgL are helping to finance critical
research into CML at the University
of Liverpool.
Professor Steven
Edwards and Dr Andrew Cross at the
University of Liverpool are carrying
out research to improve the effectiveness
of chemotherapy against CML. CML cells
are resistant to chemotherapy because
the normal processes that control
cell death and survival are defective
in these cells. Professor Edwards
and Dr Cross think they have found
a way to manipulate CML cells so they
become more sensitive to chemotherapy
drugs. If successful, this research
could help more people beat the disease.
Michael Ayerst,
Managing Director of VGL, will also
be running the London Marathon in
aid of this research project and Leukaemia
Research and in total we will be donating
over £20,000 to this project.

Plan
(UK)
VgL are continuing
to supprt the building and equiping
of the Tawaranda Primary School in
Tchamba, Togo. Last year we helped
finance the building of a brand new
school and this year we are helping
by buying desks, teaching aids and
books to help create a working school
environment. Our intention is to continue
investing in this school over the
coming years and help transform the
lives of over 450 children in the
short term and thousands in the coming
years as improved education is seen
as vital in the war against poverty.
This whole project
is managed by Plan(UK) and you can
