Tawaranda
Primay School - Updates

VgL are really pleased that Tawaranda school has had some real improvements.
The project has now been completed, and all the improvements finished to a high standard. This includes the construction of a new classroom meaning that lessons are no longer interrupted due to heavy rains or strong winds. This has in turn provided a new and positive learning environment, as well as increasing school attendance and enrollment. The classrooms have also been furnished with new school equipment, supplied through funding from VgL.
This included:
· Supply of student desks
· Supply of desks for teachers and directors offices
· Supply of chairs for teachers and for directors office
· Purchase and equipment of educational material/teaching aids
This means children no longer have to sit three at a desk whilst sharing materials, and can become more engaged in lessons. It has also created a vastly improved learning experience for all.

Leukaemia Research
Chronic Myeloid
Leukaemia (CML) Project

VgL are helping to finance critical
research into CML at the University
of Liverpool.
Professor Steven
Edwards and Dr Andrew Cross at the
University of Liverpool are carrying
out research to improve the effectiveness
of chemotherapy against CML. CML cells
are resistant to chemotherapy because
the normal processes that control
cell death and survival are defective
in these cells. Professor Edwards
and Dr Cross think they have found
a way to manipulate CML cells so they
become more sensitive to chemotherapy
drugs. If successful, this research
could help more people beat the disease.
Michael Ayerst,
Managing Director of VGL, will also
be running the London Marathon in
aid of this research project and Leukaemia
Research and in total we will be donating
over £20,000 to this project.
This project
is managed by Leukaemia Research and
