Retail
Sainsbury –
Bluebird
Our favourite new machine,
the Inca
Eagle 44H, was really put through its
paces when Sainsbury's opened its new retailing
concept 'Sainsbury's Market'.
The new store has been
launched in place of the old Terence Conran
Bluebird store, with an emphasis on fresh,
seasonal market produce. Core to communicating
a contemporary and authentic market feel
was the signage, designed by Woodward &
Co. They commissioned VgL to print all their
signage designs directly onto raw plywood.
The Inca Eagle 44H was ideal – digitally
printing onto surfaces up to 40mm thick
and up to 2400mm high.
The resulting effect
is textured, natural and dramatic, with
all the character and flaws of the timber
contributing to the overall effect. The
Inca Eagle 44H also combines all the quality
of screenprint with the advantages of digital
print. Customers can demand the turnaround
times and quantities not available from
their screenprint suppliers.

Liberty, Regent Street
Art and technology
combine to create Liberty's lavish new swimwear
department. When London designer Rana Salam
approached VgL to help revamp Liberty’s
swimwear department, we were delighted for
another opportunity to test out the newest
addition to our digital technology line-up,
the lovely Inca Digital Eagle 44H.
The displays required
us to digitally print onto a variety of
materials, including 3M colour changing
films, perspex columns, foamex for the backwall,
and printed voile. We were given just a
week to complete the job, from artwork to
installation. The new Eagle not only gave
us the chance to deliver on time, but also
gave us the flexibility to experiment with
different substrates first – impossible
with standard screen printing.
Project manager at
VgL, Adam Ososki says: “We wanted
to create something completely innovative,
something totally different in the retail
environment. The Inca Eagle 44H allows us
to be creative, innovative and fast. I just
love it”

Next Store System
Not just a pretty graphic,
the secret to the success of these displays
is the hidden frame. Store time is valuable
to Next, so the graphics were applied to
VgL’s unique tensioned frame system
for ease of use for the client. The frames
are so light that they are as easy to remove
and replace as a picture in your home –
only you wouldn’t fit one of these
on your picture rail, being an impressive
4200 x 2200mm.
